Williams’s Peep into Tottenham Street, or Dilettanti Performers in Training is a knockoff of Gillray’s caricature Dilettanti Theatrical;-or-a Peep at the Green Room. Vide Pic-Nic Orgies (Tottenham Street was the location of the rooms the Pic Nics rented for their theatricals, dinners, and gambling.
The obese woman in yellow is Albina Hobart, Lady Buckinghamshire. She exclaims to William Douglas, Duke of Queensberry, looking at her, “Is this the gallant gay Lothario! Heavens how pale. To which he replies, Bless your heart my Lady no such a thing, don’t you know me, I am Lord Pic Nic, one of the Dilettanti Performers.”
