Lucy Rawlinson, the granddaughter of Gwen Raverat, paints under the name Lucy Raverat. A series of three picnic-themed picnic paintings is a metaphor for the state of her mind, evolving from troubled and uncertain o hopeful.

In 1986, The Picnic suggest trouble looming. As crows flyover the picnickers seemingly enjoy an afternoon on the grass.  Four years later, Raverat’s mood changed for the better in The Rainbow in which a family a promising sky. Then The Picnic is Over, the family packs up the picnic gear and walks down from a bluff overlooking a placid ocean. They follow a red path that takes them, presumably, toward home. A woman shakes a rainbow-colored picnic cloth so that it flutters in the breeze.

Since 2000, Raverat paints abstract subjects.
