Larsson’s Crayfishing celebrates picnicking in late August when the crayfish are plentiful, the weather is temperate, and the days are very long. Larsson’s family scene shows the wholesomeness of family. In the immediate foreground, a child eyes the mounds of food on the table, especially the mound of cooked crayfish that is the picnic’s centerpiece.

Towards the rear, a woman, Karin Larsson, makes coffee over a campfire, and children hunt crayfish. The wind in the trees blows away the pesky mosquitoes, a nuisance on the Swedish lakes.
